Shin Splints (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome) is another common injury that is experienced by runners and is the term used for any pain experienced in the shin area.
Some of the symptoms that can be experienced are:
Experiencing pain along the front and inside of the shin (tibia)
Feeling mild pain after running
Pain when one foot strikes the ground.
Shin pain is generally caused by increasing training distances too quickly to allow the muscles to adapt to the stresses they are subjected to and can ensure that running is not an enjoyable experience whilst training due to the ongoing pain that is felt. It can be caused by several factors which are detailed in the Shin Splints document which can be found here on the Blog Downloads page.

I also include specific techniques such as Muscle Energy Technique (MET) to help restore the muscles to their normal length and function as quickly as possible.
